My Dad, Jerry Pressler died very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday. We were very close. He was an artist, with a great sense of humor and a great eclectic interest in the world. He was a supportive mentor, as well as a father and a good friend.
He had written this artist statement just last week for an up coming gallery show:
"The human condition has always fascinated me. People seem to be always at odds with nature and each other. To me, they’re neither good or bad, saints or sinners, killers, lovers; there are no answers.
I don’t want to be too melodramatic about what I do. I consider myself a painter. If I’m an “artist”, that will be for others to decide.
My favorite subject is life, with human beings at the center. Nature is beautiful, but it takes the passion of human beings to know that."
I will miss him every day.
